Card Extra

Classic Communicator from Allen Gould and Kimberly Dell (08/02/2000)

See picture of Classic Communicator.

How many times has this happened to you: you beam down to a planet to attempt a mission and, knowing full well that your opponent has seeded many evil and ugly dilemmas underneath, decide to leave some people on the ship, and send some more...expendable personnel (Grant!) instead.

And of course, the dilemma you hit needs a skill on a person you left behind, and they all die. (Repeat for how many planets you attempt this game.) So, here's the trick - you want the skill that personnel has, but you don't actually want to risk his skin on it. What do you do?

Let them phone it in.

The Classic Communicator is the perfect accessory to send with your mission-attempting team. Once each turn (not interrupting another action, of course), you can call back to the ship (or anywhere else at the location - calls are cheap in the 23rd century) and get a compatible [OS] icon personnel to lend you a skill for the turn.

The uses for this are endless - Mr. Scott (TMP) can send you a Transporter Skill while staying on (and still enhancing) the Enterprise. Short a Biology? Give Dr. McCoy (TMP) a call. Short a Computer Skill? Uhura will help you out.

Of course, the personnel doesn't need to be somewhere else - you can call up the personnel standing next to you. Brought Sisko down, but you're stuck behind a Shaka, When The Walls Fell? Use the Communicator to let another [OS] personnel there (Grant!) add Diplomacy as well.

Combo:

  • Classic Communicator + Mr. Scott + Lt. Sulu: Sulu and Scott can stay on board your ship enhancing its stats, while still contributing skills to the planet.
