First officer's log: A series of curious events during our mission to relieve the Halkans of their dilithium have led me to reassess my skills and speculate on my future in the Empire. The Enterprise was for a brief time commanded by a Captain Kirk from a universe that "mirrors" ours, brought here along with counterparts to Chief Surgeon McCoy and two other officers when an ion storm disrupted their transport from the surface. My brief contact with this Captain Kirk and a mindmeld with Dr. McCoy (TMP) have provided me with certain insights into myself through knowledge of my counterpart in that universe. Like that counterpart, I am an OFFICER well-suited to command and to lead in battle, and the ship's SCIENCE officer. According to the Captain, my attributes are also very like those of "his" Mr. Spock (in his words, I am "a man of INTEGRITY in both universes"). Beyond that, our training and interests appear to have diverged, much as our universes have. (Not to mention our tastes in facial hair; even Dr. McCoy thinks I look better with a beard.) My own interests and family expectations have led me to develop my skills in Diplomacy to a high level. This can prove most useful in negotiations when simple ruthlessness is unsuccessful, whether bartering for rights to a wormhole, placating suspicious natives, or bypassing the snares of annoying omnipotent beings. Perhaps my opposite number will someday see the value in similar development of his diplomatic skills. Although he is more highly trained in the sciences, I compensate by recourse to a wide array of equipment to augment my skills. Communicators, phasers, and tricorders (all remarkably identical to those in the other universe) as well as agonizers and simple daggers (with which they are unfamiliar) - whatever tool I require is instantly at my fingertips, allowing me access to a broad range of scientific, medical, engineering, and security skills and the ability to maintain maximum efficiency in all ways. I also possess a degree of Transporter Skill which I find increasingly useful in carrying out many of our missions, as well as eliminating Orion Syndicate Bombs and performing Scan Cycle Checks. Following my unsuccessful attempt to assassinate this spurious Kirk, he allowed me to live. My sense of Honor (and desire to regain my own captain) led me to assist him in returning to his own universe, but not before he urged me to consider the illogic of serving an Empire that I predict will fall in approximately 240 years. Upon consideration, I have calculated a high degree of probability that I could take command of the I.S.S. Enterprise and achieve a position of power to reform the Empire. Most logical... and fascinating. Combos:
