Mot's Useless Card Review #65: He Will Make an Excellent Drone |

There are literally hundreds of questions players seem to have about the Borg, but one of the more common is, "why in the world would I ever use this card? Why would you want to get rid of your Counterpart?" The Borg player is only allowed one Counterpart at a time. A counterpart that corresponds to the homeworld you want to assimilate is required, so one good reason to use the card is to let you score two Assimilate Homeworld objectives in one game. If your opponent is playing more than one affiliation (by Treaty or no), you can capitalize on the big 40 point objective twice. Even if your opponent plays just one affiliation, you are in fine shape if it's Klingon or Romulan. Locutus of Borg is an automatic counterpart for the Federation. A Borg player can get him out early, use him to assimilate Earth for 40 points, and then convert him using He Will Make An Excellent Drone. Now the Borg are free to adbuct and assimilate a Klingon or Romulan counterpart, and go on to complete a Homeworld objective on that affiliation as well. If you make sure the male you target has at least 4 skill dots, that totals to a 100 point victory off of only three objectives. Aside from retaliation, Assimilate Counterpart is the only way a Borg player can initiate personnel battle against their opponent. Decks built around Assault and Talon Drones can do a lot of damage through drone assimilation, but only if they have the Assimilate Counterpart objective to permit the battling. Unfortunately, once you've succeeded in abducting the Counterpart, you may no longer battle your opponent. By using He Will Make An Excellent Drone, you can dispense with your counterpart, play a new Assimilate Counterpart, and be able to attack again. The more of your opponent's personnel you can assimilate, the better - assimilation is a fate worse than death. No Res-Q or Regenerate will bring them back from the dead. What's more, their skills become yours to share with your Collective. So get out there and add some biological distinctiveness to your own. You'll find that many of your opponent's personnel will make excellent drones.
