Artillery Attack from Sean O'Reilly (11/15/2000)

See picture of Artillery Attack.

The Gorn were not too friendly toward the Federation in 2266. They destroyed the Cestus III outpost, claiming it was an intrusion into their space.

This dilemma represents the surprise attack by the Gorn on the Federation landing party that investigated the outpost's destruction. The uncertainty of battle is shown in the X personnel that die during the probing. The more [skill] icons on the probe card, the more people killed by the dilemma. If no [skill] icon appears on the probe card but an Equipment card icon does, then the Gorn attack is thwarted (the only penalty being the discard of the probe card) and the dilemma is discarded. If neither icon appears on the probe card, then one personnel randomly dies.

To maximize the effect of an Artillery Attack, precede it with a wall dilemma and follow it up with killer dilemma that has tough requirements. Or "play" with your opponent's draw deck to set up a good probe result using Thought Maker, New Essentialists, or the 47th Rule of Acquisition.

Combos:

  • Elim + Artillery Attack: Now it's your choice who dies.
  • Thought Maker + Artillery Attack: Rearrange opponent's draw deck so the probe card has lots of [skill] icons.
  • Horta + Artillery Attack + Gorn Encounter + Denevan Neural Parasites: Oooh, it's not a safe universe out there anymore...
