Being the first ENGINEER-classification personnel for the Vidiian affiliation, Hophalin has big shoes to fill.

In a race of medics it doesn't hurt to have a different expertise than MEDICAL and Hophalin's engineering skills will serve you just fine, wherever you go in the Delta Quadrant and beyond. In the Voyager environment alone, numerous missions and dilemmas require ENGINEER and Physics or a combination of both. As Hophalin is only one of just two Vidiians in the Voyager expansion with any knowledge of Physics, you'll be happy to know he's also universal. With just a tad of help from his buddies, Hophalin also cracks quite a few missions, Acquire Technology and Aftermath to name but a few. Archeology isn't all that common either as Hophalin only has one colleague archeologist among the Vidiians. It boosts Salvage Operation up to 30 points for having Hophalin solve it all by himself. Now I wouldn't be overstating things if I said dear ol Hoph' brings together a nice package and fills up quite a few Vidiian blanks, would I?
