Card Extra

My First Raygun from Kathy McCracken (06/06/2000)

See picture of My First Raygun.

This space-only dilemma has two effects, one not so obvious. The first and obvious effect is to kill or "stop" a personnel, depending on the probe results. While not a sure-fire killer by any means, it has a good chance of scoring a kill against an Enterprise-E deck or a heavily [AU] deck. Event- and interrupt-heavy decks may also send someone to the discard pile. But in any case, some crew member will at least be out of the current mission attempt.

The not-so-obvious benefit of the dilemma is that the probe card is discarded. It might be a relatively unimportant card, but then again, it might be your First Contact Jean-Luc Picard (Prem), adding insult to injury as you both lose a crew member and discard the Jean-Luc you would have drawn at the end of this turn.

Combo:

  • 47th Rule of Acquisition + My First Raygun: Place one of his personnel who "wears a better suit" on top of his draw deck when you expect him to attempt that space mission next turn. His probe may only "stop" a crew member, but the one banished to the draw deck heads for the discard pile.
