Mot's Useless Card Review #20: Zibalian Transport

urSee prev. 'useless' reviewSee next 'useless' review

In order to determine what this card is useful for, you have to take a look at what its virtues are:

  1. It's a non-aligned ship. That means any affiliation can make use of the ship,
  2. It has no staffing requirements. That means the ultimate flexibility in movement - any able-bodied personnel can hop aboard and start moving.

Together, those two traits lend themselves nicely to two very specific kinds of decks:

  1. A Klingon Colony deck. CIVILIANs don't commonly have command or staff abilities. Most of the ones who do are Non-Aligned, which means they would have to wait for a personnel of matching affiliation before trekking off in a Klingon ship anyway. Why not instead give them this easy-to-fly Non-Aligned ship to allow quick and easy access to the Colony location? You'll note also that I specifically mention a Klingon Colony Deck in this example. While the Zibalian Transport will help any Colony deck, it's a natural for a deck built around the 2-Player Game premium card Gi’ral. Using her and Tokath, you can build a Colony at a mission you've not yet completed. But Tokath is Romulan, of course, and Gi'ral has no staff icon. (And the smallest Klingon ship still requires one staff icon to move.) This would ordinarily make transporting the two of them to the same location a bit of a hindrance. But the Zibalian Tranport can be flown by either one of them, making such a strategy just a good shuffle (or Q’s Tent) away.
  2. Hologram decks. The only holographic personnel with command abilities is Paul Rice. Meanwhile, the best holograms for completing a bunch of missions (not to mention the ones that are common enough for you to actually have in multiple) are Klingon and Romulan. Brute Force, Wormhole Negotiations, Secret Salvage, Explore Typhone Expanse, Study Plasma Streamer, Study Stellar Collision, Investigate Legend, Avert Danger and Distress Mission are all easy points for Jera, Tomek, Fek'lhr and K’Tesh, and there's several more waiting to be snatched up if you add Espionage or Treaties to the deck. The problem is, those four holograms can't fly the average ship. Load them on a Zibalian Transport with your Holoprojectors in play, however, and you're off and running.

For purposes of these strategies, the Yridian Shuttle works just as well - it also is a Non-Aligned ship with no staffing requirements, and it too has a RANGE of 6. Two ships, great for two great strategies. Dust 'em off and try 'em!
