Card Extra

Bribery from Todd Soper (12/17/1999)

See picture of Bribery.

Have you ever been building a deck and thought, "Gosh, that Romulan mission would fit in perfectly with the skills that my Klingons have. Wish I had a way they could do it." Well, buck up little soldier. Klingons canŐt do that sort of thing except with some limited Espionage cards, but the Ferengi can! ThatŐs right, with a little bribe of some Gold-pressed Latinum, the Ferengi have the entire collection of all missions ever printed at their disposal (save for Ferenginar). Granted, they may not be able to actually complete some of them (Construct Depot comes to mind), but at least your Ferengi can attempt any mission with points that you seed on the spaceline. Just be aware that if your opponent happens to seed your mission first, youŐre out of luck.

The other affiliations can get some mileage out of this card as well; only the first function is limited to Ferengi use. The second function, negating a point loss of up to 9 points, can be helpful to anyone against things such as The Higher... The Fewer, Punishment Zone, losing a Royale Casino: Craps side-game, etc. Use this function sparingly, however, since it discards the Incident after use. And the last function can be instrumental in negating the powerful effects of the various ways of getting captured; almost like Prisoner Exchange, only you need Latinum instead of a prisoner of your own. Do you need to sacrifice someone important just to get past a Cardassian Trap? Just expend some Latinum and theyŐll be free again. Also, instead of discarding Latinum to negate a Mandarin Bailiff point transfer, just let the person get captured and then release them with a bribe. This saves your Incident from having to be discarded!

Combos:

  • Bribery + any mission + lots of Latinum: Having every mission open to the Ferengi can make for very tight mission-solving decks.
  • Bribery + Full Planet Scan (or Scan): If you see a point-loss or capture-related dilemma coming your way, you can get your Latinum ready before heading into the mission attempt.
