Kukalaka from Evan Lorentz (10/1999)

See picture of Kukalaka.

Every dedicated Romulan player since premiere, when encountering Firestorms and Alien Parasites, has looked at disruptors and PADDs and longed for a similar booster for INTEGRITY. Julian Bashir's beloved Kukalaka finally provides that boost. He's unique, limiting you to a +2 boost to each member of a single crew or Away Team - but that's enough to save nearly all of your Romulans from a Firestorm. Even the other, more honorable affiliations will find he makes lots of dilemmas and missions just that much easier, and Bajorans, Ferengi and Federation can even download him with Leeta or Julian Bashir. Just remember to beam him to another ship before you try to solve Quash Conspiracy or Refuse Immigration with more than a minimal crew!

Kukalaka's other features can be no less important. Your opponent will be able to Brain Drain, at most, one of your personnel every turn, and his downloads from Going to the Top will likewise be limited.

Combos:

  • Kukalaka + Pegasus Search or Study Hole in Space: With requirements including INTEGRITY > 40, these missions take a fairly large crew. Kukalaka cuts one or two personnel off the number you'll need.
  • Kukalaka + Leeta: Bajorans, Ferengi or anyone who can work with either affiliation - can not only download the little fella, but also everyone gets even more INTEGRITY - +3 instead of +2 - when Leeta's around.
  • Kukalaka + D’Tan: Playing Romulan and can't work with Leeta? D'Tan won't give you a download and can't help treacherous Romulans or anyone Non-Aligned, but many of the low-INTEGRITY universal Romulans have no Treachery, so they gain +3 INTEGRITY from this combo as well.
