Q-Type Android from Todd Soper (07/26/2000)

See picture of Q-Type Android.

Take 1: Have you, a human, ever wanted to be an android? Well, you may not ever be able to experience it yourself, but at least you can live vicariously through your personnel cards. Er, uh, wait...

Take 2: Have you, an android, ever wanted to be human? Well, you may not ever be able to experience it yourself, but at least you can live vicariously through your personnel cards. Ummm, uhhh...

Take 3: Have you, a Q being, ever wanted people to actually visit your lovely planet that you took the time to create for them? Well now you can! (Hey, that works.)

This new Q-type card has myriad possibilities for its use. First, it can be used to turn all copies (both yours and your opponent's) of a personnel card into an android to make certain that those android-targeting dilemmas you seeded actually have a target, such as Chinese Finger Puzzle, System-Wide Cascade Failure and Android Nightmares. Secondly, it can also be used to turn a whole army of Soong-Type Androids into quivering, weak human beings. Not only will they lose their massive STRENGTH, but they'll also lose their ability to be "reprogrammed" by Dr. Soong.

Thirdly, it also has the option to relocate an opponent's personnel of your choice to an unsolved Q’s Planet where they will be stuck under the mission until recovered by solving it. If you've seeded Q's Planet with some nasty dilemmas, that personnel could be out of commission until the game is almost over.

In addition to being used against an opponent, it can also be used as a self-seed. Play with Beware of Q to take advantage of its status as a Q-Dilemma and send a crew including a few copies of a universal personnel to encounter it, forcing your opponent to turn them (and all copies of them in play) into androids. Just make sure that Q's Planet has not yet hit the table first. This can be beneficial for your attack deck if your opponent is hiding out at Paxan ’Wormhole’" Lull them into thinking they are safe there, and then instantaneously give your ships enough androids to keep them from being relocated.

Combos:

  • Beware of Q + Interphasic Plasma Creatures + Q-Type Android + Android Nightmares: Hit them first with the Plasma Creatures, then turn an unsuspecting individual into an android and proceed to kill three personnel present. Though nasty all on its own, this can be even nastier if used as a set-up for a fourth dilemma.
  • Q-Type Android + Q's Planet: All sorts of capturing-related fun. Send your opponent's personnel to Q's Planet, and then on your turn complete and capture the personnel there.
