Not only the Federation and Klingons benefit from the infusion of strong Alternate Universe personnel from the original series; from the very first Romulan episode comes the unnamed Centurion, Keras's senior advisor. His [AU] icon will let him report to either the Gal Gath’thong or the Decius with Crew Reassignment, while his [OS] icon and SCIENCE classification let him make use of all the classic equipment. And that's just a start. It's hard to have too much Exobiology around for passing dilemmas, especially under a SCIENCE classification rather than the too-easily shanghaied MEDICAL. Stellar Cartography will fit nicely into any space-oriented Romulan deck, and Honor with a green border is always in short supply. His own dazzling (for a Romulan) INTEGRITY of 7 is overshadowed by his special skill: he boosts all attributes of other Romulans at his location by +1 each. That's enough to reduce the requirement to nullify a Dal’Rok by one personnel, gets nearly every Romulan past Firestorm level, and makes it just that much easier to pass Alien Parasites - and he doesn't even have to be in the Away Team.
