The mainstay of the Ferengi military fleet gives a nice balance of speed and power in a ship that is both seedable and downloadable; not too shabby at all. The Marauder is a balanced 8-8-8 universal ship similar to the power ships of the other affiliations, and it takes 2 staff stars and a command star to get it going. It has the standard Tractor Beam and a holodeck - although it is somewhat less useful as the Ferengi currently have no compatible holograms (short of a Memory Wipe).

Where this ship scores is in its ease of getting into play and getting staffed early in the game when it can make a difference. It can be seeded at a Ferengi Trading Post, or downloaded with Spacedoor. Using Assign Mission Specialists you can have Dr. Farek (necessary for a command star), and Qol or Dr. Borts in play at the outset. Then Quark’s Isolinear Rods allows you to grab a person with 2 Computer Skill, either Quark himself or 10 and 01 spring readily to mind. Your Marauder is then staffed and ready to Scan away, with the Computer Skill necessary to minimize Scanner Interference. This will let you know what dilemmas you'll face, and who to bring to bear on them. Why deal with the unknown if you can quickly turn it into the known?
