Most mothers are very protective of their young. Such was the case on Janus VI in the 2260s. In order to keep her eggs safe, the "mother" Horta killed members of a Federation mining team.

The skills needed to cure this dilemma are tough to muster, very tough in fact. Few personnel have either Leadership x2 or Exobiology x2, and only Vulcans have Mindmeld. Use that to your advantage since an opponent will probably need six personnel to cure the dilemma, if they aren't stocking I'm a Doctor, Not A Bricklayer.

While Horta won't "stop" an Away Team, since it has no conditions, you can cause your opponent major problems with the right combo. Use a wall dilemma that has some tough conditions (Founder's Secret, Odo’s Cousin, Ferengi Infestation, or Shaka, When The Walls Fell) and follow the Horta dilemma up with one that keeps an Away Team around awhile (Duonetic Field Generator or Chula: The Game). And for even greater killing fun, add an event that does the same thing: Mission Debriefing, Atmospheric Ionization, or Distortion Field.

Combos:

  • Lack of Preparation + Denevan Neural Parasites + Horta + Duonetic Field Generator: Kill off enough ENGINEERs so the Horta will keep killing off the Away Team one by one.
  • Horta + Atmospheric Ionization: Not leaving fast? Why not "meet and greet" the Horta a few more times?
